konverjdans + the fall
konverjdans, a New York-based contemporary ballet company, was co-founded in 2016 by Amy Saunder, Jordan Miller and Tiffany Mangulabnan, three female dancer-choreographers who hail from Zimbabwe, the U.S. and the Philippines respectively. (Click here for the whole story.)
We create dance in collaboration with various artists—musicians, painters, sculptors, filmmakers, and others—in an aim to celebrate the differences and the convergence of unique voices, backgrounds, and experiences. We’ve been creating, performing, choreographing and producing dance in collaboration with mainly Brooklyn-based artists for over two years.
This fall, we’re taking our work beyond our usual Brooklyn spaces and embarking on our first-ever national tours, as well as producing a performance in Brooklyn between our tours.
We’ll get to the special perks of donating to our campaign in just a moment (scroll down for that). Here’s a little about the tours and performances that your donations will help us produce:
1) The bulk of the money we raise will go towards offsetting the costs of our tour to Fort Wayne, Indiana. From October 7-14 we will teach master classes in ballet technique & konverjdans repertoire, and present two performances on October 12th & 13th at 7:30pm, at the PPG ArtsLab.
Fort Wayne is also Jordan’s hometown, so this tour is very special to us: we’re going back and sharing what we, both as individual dancers and as a company, have learned and discovered in all our years in New York, with the community that prepared Jordan for her journey to this incredible city (and to konverjdans)! But to make all this a reality for us, we need your help with:
Fees for the Fort Wayne artists (musicians, composers & visual artists) we’re collaborating with
Costumes for the two world premieres
2) Next, we need help in our preparations for our tour to Vero Beach, Florida, from October 30-November 8, with a performance on November 7th at 7pm, at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
Ballet Vero Beach has invited us (at the generous recommendation of Wendy Whelan!) for a week-long residency to create a new piece with their ballet master and principal dancer Camilo A. Rodriguez. We will perform this new piece along with our own work in a one-night-only performance. They are generously covering our travel, lodging and stipends, but we could still use your help with:
Studio space for our pre-tour rehearsals
3) Finally, we want to share what we've been working on with our New York audiences. So, we're producing a fall performance at the Mark Morris Dance Center in Brooklyn, NY, on October 20th, at 5:00pm. For this, we need help paying for:
Artist fees (both for rehearsal and performance)
In addition to your tax deduction, here are some special perks you can get for your donation:
