Kwento: August 26-27, 2022

konverjdans presents

‘Kwento’

August 26 - 27, 2022 | 7:30pm
Triskelion Arts
106 Calyer St, Brooklyn, NY

Tickets $30

”Kwento” is the Tagalog/Filipino word for "story" - the word we use when we ask one another to recount our day-to-day experiences. After two years of separation, and with many stories to tell, we return to the stage for our sixth season with three world premieres by artistic directors Amy Saunder, Jordan Miller and Tiffany Mangulabnan. Each new work tells different kinds of kwento, whether through narratives or vignettes - stories of friendship, love, loss, separation, and the ways in which we come back together.

Since 2016 konverjdans has converged dance with other art forms and worked with a diverse group of artistic collaborators in dance, music, visual art, literature, film, and design. "Kwento" feels like a culmination of six years of evolving in collaboration and building community. It tells our stories and our collaborators' stories from the polyphony of our different voices, experiences, and kwento.

"Kwento" will feature the world premieres of

World Premiere (title TBA)
choreography by Amy Saunder
live music by Bandits on the Run

'Don't Get Comfy / Nowhere'
choreography by Tiffany Mangulabnan
live music by Carmen Q. Rothwell

World Premiere (title TBA)
choreography by Jordan Miller
new original score by Sergio Carrasco and Jake Handelman

All the work will feature original costume design by Reshma Patel-Cline, lighting design by Conor Mulligan, and performances from dancers JoVonna Parks, James Anthony, Antuan Byers and Peter Cheng, who will be joined by Mangulabnan, Miller and Saunder.

The six other choreographers and visual artists presented will be: Julia K. Gleich (also the event's curator) with Elana Herzog, Ursula Verduzco with Lizzie Scott, Brandi Marsh with Emily Noelle Lambert, Lynn Parkerson with Cornell Thomsen, Margaret Wiss with Noël Hennelly, and Eryn Renee Young with Leslie Kerby.

We have been paired with visual artist Nancy Baker and joined forces once more with resident konverjdans musical genius, percussionist/composer Max Taylor Kanowitz to create an audio-visual dance experience for the premiere of 'STRATA', with music by Kanowitz, visual art by Baker, and choreography by Tiffany Mangulabnan, Jordan Miller and Amy Saunder.
